Oliver is born in a workhouse. His mother died immediately after the born of Oliver. The people of the municipality bring him to an orphanage where he spents the first 9 years of his life. On his 9th birth a man comes to get him and brings him to a place where he can teach a trade. In the orphanage he was always maltreated and teased. And in the new place it goes on! On a day Oliver asks for more soup and that is a scandal. Oliver is sent to mister Sowerberry a coffin maker to learn that trade.
