Shakespeare was baptized in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon on April 26, 1564. He is buried in that same church and on April 23, 1616, he died.
Shakespeare probably went to Stratford’s excellent free grammar school.
His mother, Mary Arden was the daughter of Robert of Arden of Wilmcote, near Stratford. His father, John Shakespeare was a leather merchant who earned a lot of money. In the mid-1570s, John Shakespeare’s fortune was decreasing.
On November 28, 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway of the neighboring village of Shottery. He was 18 and she was 26 years old. She was pregnant.
