The novel is set in the south of the USA. It tells about a young black girl, celie, and her struggle for self-determination.celie is a girl of tourteen. she is raped bij her father. She has no one to talk to so she speaks with god.
Her father,pa, abuses her many times. celie, who has never had any sex education, is stunned bij what her father does te her and bij the fact that she gets pregnant. when she gives birth, Pa takes the baby girl away from her. celie thinks that he has killed the little girl. celie's mother, who is both mentally and physically ill, suspects her husband and her suspicions are confirmed when celie expects a second baby. her mother dies. pa also takes this baby, a boy, away.
